August Boating Update: What’s on, What’s not, What’s possible

As specialist marine lenders we make our best efforts to stay across the latest in the boating scene. But the speed at which lockdowns and restrictions are being put in place around the country is making it a challenge to stay across the calendar of boating events. As we countdown to the start of the boating scene and amidst lockdowns in SE Queensland and Greater Sydney, we bring you the latest news on what’s on, what’s not on and what is still possible in the world of boating.

Great Results for Sailing in Tokyo

Stay at home this time round for many at least coincides with the 4 year global sportsfest and in a time-zone friendly location for Australians. While the more popular sports of swimming and team events seem to draw the most TV coverage, you may be surprised to know that Australian sailors have consistently delivered medals over a very long time.

For newcomers to sailing races, you need to be in it for the long haul as sailing events are typically decided over multiple races, up to 10 in some events. Massive congratulations goes to Matt Wearn who secured the gold medal in the Laser class, even before the so-called ‘medal race’. Consistent performance over the racing schedule placed him in the gold medal position. Australia has a proud gold medal track record in this class and it’s great to see it continuing.

Australia was represented in multiple sailing events with several teams in exceptional form. Notably Mat Belcher and Will Ryan in the 470 class placed in 1st after the first few races. This class is also an Aussie favourite with the men’s and women’s teams both doing very well in 2000 in Sydney.

Boating Events Calendar

With the Sydney Festival of Boating scrapped due to lockdown, we look ahead to what still seems to be on the agenda for boating enthusiasts. September-October has a number of events still scheduled but all of course subject to what happens with coronavirus.

Horizon Shores Boat Show is scheduled for 3-5 September. This is being held at d’Albora Marinas Horizon Shores which is between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. This show includes boating and adventure exhibitors so should have plenty for everyone. Stay in touch for details at and if you plan to buy at the show, contact us prior to arrange a pre-approved boat loan.

The Darwin Leisure and Boat Show is also scheduled for that weekend, 4-5 September and designed as a family friendly event. Details are being difficult to source but the BIA does have this show listed so stay across for info

BIA Victoria has the Discover Boating Showcase scheduled for early October and we’ll stay across the situation in that state and hope this one goes ahead after the Melbourne Boat Show was cancelled.

There are also quite a few outdoor and 4x4 shows still due to happen in the regions and these include some fishing and boating suppliers, so keep your eyes open for what’s on in your area.

World Maritime Day happens on 30 September and that is a good reason to address your boating requirements. National Boat Safety Week in October is another ideal time to address how you go about your boating activities. There are laws and regulations around what safety equipment is required on boats. When buying a new boat, we encourage our customers to, where possible, include all the necessary and desired safety equipment when placing their boat order with a dealer. That way, your Jade consultant can work toward including the costs in your overall boat loan. You will have the reassurance that you have the safety gear you need and just the one loan repayment to address each month.

After all that’s happened in 2021 many boat owners will no doubt be building up to getting away from it all and just – gone fishing! You can join the rest of the country’s fishing enthusiasts with Gone Fishing Day on 10 October. The national day of celebrating all things fishing. Oops, don’t have a fishing boat? Don’t worry, there’s plenty of time to arrange a boat loan and purchase a great fishing boat before then.

Securing Your New Boat

Boat ownership soared in 2020 due to COVID-19 and 2021 looks like continuing that trend. There have been reports of shortages of supply for some boat manufacturers so it is strongly advised not to delay placing your order. Some makes and models will be available for immediate delivery, some are custom-built and will require pre-order and some will have delayed delivery due to a range of both local and global supply chain issues.

One aspect of buying a boat which does not attract a delay is sourcing a loan through Jade Boat Loans. Our team of consultants is available to take your details and get straight onto sourcing you a quote and arranging your loan.

Getting into boating can be a great way to enjoy your recreational time with friends, family or just on your own. There’s a lot we can’t do right now but you can still proceed with that boat purchase and look forward to the new boating season.
