Fishing is one of the most popular recreational pursuits in Australia, so it's not surprising there would be an annual 'Gone Fishing Day'. The 2020 event on Sunday 18 October marked the 5th year for the initiative which is organised by the Australian Recreational Fishing Foundation (ARFF) to celebrate fishing and what this fabulous sport contributes to communities.
According to the ARFF, a not for profit, peak body and voice for recreational fishers, the day provides the opportunity to connect with nature and especially Australia’s marine environments. It’s a chance to have a special purpose to head out and throw in a line, invite friends to join you on your boat and explore your favourite fishing spot and share your love of fishing. A day to show your support for the sport and protecting our value fish habitats.
It’s another great reason to get out and about and appreciate the fresh air – being COVID-safe of course. And always wear safety gear including a life jacket.
