Applications are now open for the Jade Finance Australia Tertiary Studies Scholarship and we encourage boating enthusiasts to spread the word to eligible students of this great opportunity. Jade Boat Loans, as part of the Jade Finance business, is promoting this initiative which has an award of up to $5000 on offer.

With the fees for courses increasing, costs of living soaring, interest rates rising and the expenses associated with engaging in studies presenting financial challenges for many students, this $ 5,000 scholarship is sure to attract wide interest. While Jade Boat Loans is all about providing marine finance, the scholarship project is open to students from any field of tertiary study, subject to the eligibility criteria and terms and conditions of the program.

Our focus at Jade Boat Loans is to save our customers time and money through cheap boat finance. So it is only natural that we would also seek to assist students with study expenses through our community support initiatives.

Scholarship Details

Students from many areas of study are eligible and welcome to apply for the scholarship. Part-time and full-time students who have completed a year of studies and are enrolled at the moment in a tertiary course are eligible. The course must be at a recognised institution of tertiary study in Australia or be offered by a provider of higher education.

Applications must include an 800 word original, written piece on finance and loans for the business and/or consumer market. Applicants do not have to be studying finance or be enrolled in a finance-related course. We know there are students in many fields that will have great ideas and insights into the key theme.

The written submissions will be judged by the group of finance professionals who will be appointed by Jade Finance Australia. The winner will receive up to a $5000 cash deposit to go towards their training and study expenses.

Ideas for Written Submission

Applicants are welcome to choose their topic or angle for the written submission, as long as it is based on the lending sector, which is our key business interest. We have a few ideas to stimulate the thought process of potential applicants.

Boating is a recreational and business activity that is very much impacted by the weather. Boaters will be extremely aware of the effect of climate change especially with a third La Nina emerging in Australia in 2022. So if you’re into boating and want to apply, why not focus the written submission on the role of the lending sector in regards to climate change?

• Do lenders have a moral responsibility in this area or not?
• Should boat loans and other forms of finance encourage borrowers to be more climate-aware?
• Should lenders be more selective in not sourcing finance from companies that invest in fossil-fuel activities?
• Should, and if so how loan applicants can support climate policies when selecting their marine finance lender?
• How lenders could support boat manufacturers that choose renewable resources and power sources that are alternatives to fossil fuels.
• The role of lenders in supporting loan applicants who opt for vessels with engines that reduce carbon emissions.

Another idea may be to take a very large-scale view of the global and domestic issues that have impacted economies over the past few years and how the lending sector has a role in supporting individuals, businesses and the economy. The role may be regarding interest rates, loan conditions and finance products.

The written submission may address the role of regulators in the finance sector. Should their role and the laws be relaxed or tightened? In what areas? Consumer Finance Laws were before the Federal Parliament in 2021 and this may form the basis of a submission.

Applicants may choose to use their knowledge of technology and the digital environment to present their innovative ideas of new ways for the finance sector to better support customers. Especially those with challenges regarding language, understanding finance and those in remote areas.

There is a wealth of angles and themes that can be addressed and there are sure to be students that have their points of view and proposals to present.

Timeline for Applications

So if you know a student who would interested in $5,000 towards their costs of study, please advise them of this opportunity. It may be someone who is studying a boating industry course that ties in with the interests of Jade Boat Loans.

Applications are open now with the deadline the 18th July 2023. The judging panel will then assess each application and decide on the winner by 31 July 2023.
